LEON DORCH Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leon Deen Dorch, Jr., aged 79, on February 19, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia. Leon departed this world surrounded by support and compassion, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts. Leon was born to the late Leon D. Dorch, Sr., and Rosa Lee Bates of Barnwell, South Carolina, on August 15, 1946. He joined his mother, father, and brother in eternal rest, but his memory will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched.

He grew up in Sylvania, Georgia, alongside his late brother, Arthur “Rock” Dorch, Sr., forming cherished memories and lifelong bonds. Leon is reunited in eternal peace with his dear departed wife of 51 years, Myrtis McNair Dorch, who was the love of his life. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Leon’s dedication to family was a testament to the enduring power of love. Leon is survived by his three adoring children, Leon D. Dorch III (Edwina), Patrick A. Dorch, Sr. (Latora), and Jennell Florence (Eric), who were a constant source of pride and joy.

Leon was a pillar of strength and wisdom to his three adult children, who will carry forward his legacy with love and gratitude. His legacy also lives on through the seven grandchildren he cherished deeply: Michael Dorch, Aisha Dorch, Talesia Dorch, Patrick A. Dorch, Jr., Nicholas Dorch, Jordan Florence, and Jai Florence. Leon’s influence will be forever present in the values, wisdom, and love he passed on to each generation. In his earlier years, Leon dedicated over three decades of his life to the Keebler Company, where he was affectionately known as the “Cookie Man” by those closest to him. His commitment to excellence and passion for his work left a lasting impact on all who knew him. After retiring, he was a devoted grandfather who found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren; he was always present, always supportive, and always ready with encouragement.

Leon joined Crawford Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, where he faithfully worshiped and cherished fellowship with his church family. He will be remembered for his generous heart, welcoming spirit, and the love he gave so freely to family and friends. In his leisure time, Leon found joy in simple pleasures, particularly watching wrestling matches and westerns on television. Leon had a special fondness for wrestling, finding excitement and entertainment in the athleticism and drama of the sport. He also had a knack for conversation and could often be found engaged in lively discussions on the phone, sharing stories, and exchanging laughs with friends and family. His warm and friendly demeanor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of sharing these moments with him. His infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Leon Deen Dorch, Jr., will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering love for his family, and genuine kindness towards all who knew him. Though he may have left this world, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. In celebrating his life, we reflect on the joy, laughter, and love that he brought into our lives.

He is survived by his nephews, Elvis Scurry (Pshonda), Arthur Dorch, Jr., Michael Kirkland (Stephanie), Timothy Hopkins, and Christopher Dorch (Sandia); nieces, Dorothy Bangs (Walter), Rose Dorch-Parrish, and Twila Daniels (John); along with a host of relatives and friends who will continue to cherish his memory. In the hearts of those who knew him, Leon will forever remain a beacon of love, strength, and kindness. Though he has bid farewell to this earthly journey, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
