LEONARD JONES Obituary

Leonard Matthew Jones, affectionately known as “Hambone,” was born on April 26, 1956, in Lincolnton, Georgia, to the late Lawson and Marial Momon Jones. He peacefully departed this life on April 14, 2026.

During his late teenage years and early twenties, Leonard was employed at Milliken Mills in McCormick, South Carolina. It was there, in 1977, that he met Mary Williams of Parksville, South Carolina. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, blessed with three children, and culminated in marriage in February of 1990.

Leonard was a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching oldies and country western shows and had a natural gift for making others laugh. His humor and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Over the years, Leonard also worked for APAC and Joe L. Houston Trucking Company, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers: Roy W. Jones, Lawson Jones Jr., and Edward “Skeet” Jones.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of thirty-six years, Mary Williams Jones of the home; one daughter, Marilyn Y. (Luther) Garrett of Clarks Hill, South Carolina; two sons, Jeremy A. Williams of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Michael P. Jones (Jhackie Deaton) of Martinez, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Lanisha M. (Joshua) Freeman, Luther “Tripp” Garrett III, Laila M. Garrett, Deon (Alexis) Garrett, Liam Jones, Ellian Jones, and Jamari Deaton; one great-grandson, Argo Garrett; two brothers, Celister (Louise) Jones and Bobby Jones, both of Lincolnton, Georgia; three sisters, Mary Jones of Kent, Washington, Thelma J. (Hayden) Hawes of Tampa, Florida, and Debbie Jones of Winfield, Georgia; one aunt, Bessie J. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other sorrowing relatives and friends.

Leonard’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
