Mary "Louise" Patten Carr, lovingly known by many as Louise, Weez, Weezy, or Shug, entered eternal rest on October 8, 2025, surrounded by her family in her home in Graniteville, South Carolina. Born in Edgefield, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Lucy Patten.
A proud graduate of W,E, Parker High School and Voorhees University, Mary earned a Bachelor's degree in English and Literature. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to education, social services, and community outreach-serving faithfully in schools, retail and social work until retirement.
Mary's faith in God was unwavering. She accepted Christ under her mother's leadership and later served faithfully at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. She was known for her strength, style, humor, generosity and deep love for her family.
She was preceded by her daughter, Zinda DaVon Carr and two brothers. Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Leslie JeMell (minister Samuel) James and Angel Idell Carr. six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever love and honor her.
